There are no experts in Steven Spielberg's War of the World-- no brilliant scientists from Caltech or M.I.T talking of an alien bloodtype. And no military-intelligence officers, either, or any of the other authorities wearing thick glasses who showed up in science-fiction movies half century ago and who became so much the part of the mythology of a disaster. White House is not heard from, and worried diplomats do not meet United Nation to address crisis. In this stark, a horror-movie take on the H.G. Wells 1898 classic, an alien land in the noisy flash of a lightning, imperceptible as a jellyfish as they clamber down jagged bolt. They quuickly activate the war machine that they buried in the ground eon earlier, reapper on on the surface of the earth inside the giant tripod, and begin crunching across the American landscape, vaporizing everything in a sight.
