For this writing assignment, you will write three typed pages (about 750 words) reporting on what you saw, felt and thought about your field trip to DuSable Museum Wednesday morning (7/20/05). Page one will report your description and observations about the museum. Page two will discuss your different feelings about everything you saw. Page three will be your analysis of the trip.
1. Page One: Your Observations
Describe the basic information about the museum: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and HOW (You should leave answering the WHY question to your analysis, page three). Basically, you want to describe, in as objective a manner as possible (without opinion, thoughts or feelings) the occurrences you witnessed or took part in during your field trip. In addition to how things looked, explain how they sounded, smelled and felt.
2. Page Two: Your Thoughts and feelings
Record how you felt and what you thought about your field trip. Did it remind you of anything? How did being at the museum, or in that neighborhood, make you feel? Explain things like whether you were happy, sad, angry, disgusted, excited, bored, etc.
3. Page Three: Your Analysis
Examine WHY you had the thoughts and feelings you had about the things you saw in the museum. Also, discuss what you think this museum probably means for the people in the community that you visited. How is this experience making you think or reflect on the SIELI program you’re in right now, on Chicago, on your culture, or the world? Is it changing, or making stronger, any beliefs you had when you began this program? Compare your experience in DuSable today with your experience in earlier field trips, such as in Millennium Park. Did today’s trip change any of your ideas about Chicago, African Americans, all Americans, or people in general?
